A cool website to check out
I just finished setting up profile pages for all of my websites on AboutUs.org, a website that I came across today in a blog entry where the writer of the blog was making suggestions as to how to do some quick SEO improvements yourself that can help your website become more SEO-friendly.
What is AboutUs.org?
It’s a place where you can learn about other people’s websites and if you have a website(s) you can promote it.
In their own words, the creators of AboutUs.org describe their site as:
AboutUs.org is the world’s largest editable list of websites.
I came across AboutUs.org today, checked it out and figured I’d add in each of my websites to its database. Actually, database is the wrong word as the site is more of a wiki-style one as I’ll describe in more detail below.
If you don’t have a website yet there are some sections to help you learn about website design, SEO, how to use H1 headings, etc and other aspects of web building that will help you develop a website that not only looks good but is SEO-friendly too.
If you already have a website you can simply enter your URL on the AboutUs.org homepage to get a free Home Page Analysis and Website Presence report which takes about 10 seconds to receive online.
Once you get to the report page, you’re not only taken to the report section that lets you view your results, but you’ll also notice that AboutUs.org has pulled information from your site to create a wiki page which you can then customize yourself.
In terms of the report section as mentioned above it’s divided into two sections:
Home Page Analysis: It analyzes your website’s Titles & Headings, Links & Images, Keywords and Search Engine Friendliness and makes recommendations as to areas that need improvement. My site had several pictures missing Alt tags and my Meta Description was too long – I should have known this to be honest – so I was able to make the corrections quickly.
Web Presence: The Web Presence report details your site’s Search Engine Visibility (Backlinks, Indexed Pages, etc) and it’s Social Visibility amongst community sites like Digg and Google Groups to name but two.
The two reports are quick to receive and you can make any necessary improvements to your site based on your results quite quickly as well. using the free site review that then takes you to the results page along with the customizable wiki page of your website is pretty clever actually. Of course I had to customize all my websites and add some additional information in.
In terms of customizing your page, you can quickly add your logo, contact information and then add in various text and photo descriptions of your website including inbound links if desired.
Once you’re done customizing your page(s) you can email AboutUs.org and request that they give you a Do Follow link for your page as all pages are set to No Follow by default. They’re looking for quality looking pages and ones that have had a bit of work put into them so hopefully mine pass the test.
One thing to keep in mind is that since the pages are set up as wiki-style pages, other people can come in and amend them. I’m not sure why someone would want to make revisions or changes to a profile page for someone else’s personal or business website but hopefully if they do, it will be a useful one.
If you want to check out my first go-round on AboutUs.org, you can check out my profile page for Jump Off The Ladder to start with.

Thank you for the great post!! We’re trying to make AboutUs.org a great website for website owners, and I’m glad you’ve noticed and like it.
AboutUs.org is a wiki, so anyone that joins can edit pages. Most edits are constructive, and we personally review every edit made to the site to undo any that aren’t. Also, once you confirm your account and edit a page you will automatically be signed up for email alerts should that page ever be edited by someone else.
We’ll continue to add more features that we think will help people. If you have any feedback or questions, contact us. Thank you!
Hi Kristina
Thanks for your kind words and your post. I was very happy to have come across AboutUs.org today. I often read blogs and find great resources that I wasn’t previously aware of so I wanted to return the favour and let people know about my experience with you guys.
Incidentally, I emailed my AboutUs.org pages over last night for consideration for Do Follow links and within 12 hours they were approved so you guys certainly respond very quickly!
Thanks again.
Carl
